Doubling label qty during print

Post by watkichr » Wed May 07, 2014 1:02 pm

We are generating print files from ERP to process with Nicelabel Automation. If I request 2 labels, 4 is printed at runtime although the printfile states 2. When I take the printfile and change something (add and delete a space in the printer name) to trigger automation again, it prints the requested 2 labels without doubling up.

Have anybody encountered anything similar? I have checked everything that I could think of but to no avail.

I have another automation trigger that uses a similar setup, and that works fine!

Hello,

i haven't heard of a behaviour like this before.
Could you maybe provide the required files to test this (.misx, .lbl and the trigger file), via PM if you don't want them to be public?
Making the printfile dirty without actually changing the content shouldn't change the outcome of Automation/the print.

Kind regards
Dennis

Hi Dennis

I have attached the misx, lbl and an actual print file.

Hope you can use this and find the issue. Any help or suggestions will be appreciated.

There is nothing wrong in your configuration file.
You even have the option "open file exclusively" enabled (which is a default anyway ;-))

In this mode Automation will only open the trigger file and read its contents, if it can be opened "exclusively" meaning that only Automation can access it. This is to prevent the triggering while the ERP system still writes the data to the file.

How many trigger events do you see stated in the Automation Manager for your file trigger?
Are there two events for each "data export" that you do on the ERP side?

Is it possible that the ERP exports the same data twice?

The number of events logged in the Automation Manager will tell us, if the same file was triggered twice, or there is really some problem with the quantity (unlikely).

Hello,

I know this is an old post but we have the same problem.
In the attachments, you can see the log files.
We generate 10 or more txt files. So the trigger was printing files before and after this problem.
The files are not opened or changed once they are dropped in the folder for NiceLabel.

Maybe someone here can help us fix this problem.
Kind regards,
Jo

The screenshot displays two trigger events for the same file. The first one at 11:29:57.717 and the second one at 11:29:58.684 with 33 milliseconds difference.

The logical explanation would be the fact that the application you exported data from accessed the trigger file twice. The timestamp changed two times. I hope this logic can be applied here. ;-)

To test the hypothesis you can drop the files in some other folder, not monitored by Automation. Then use Windows Explorer to copy them into the monitored folder. Can you reproduce the problem this way?

The trigger was executed in April, so this must be Automation version 1.4 or earlier.
Version 1.5 was released in early June, perhaps you can try with the latest version?
The release notes for 1.5 are here http://www.nicelabel.com/resources/file ... on_1.5.pdf

I experienced same while generating text files from Excel and have solved the problem by deleting the text files once Automation fires the trigger. Deletion does the trick.

Thanks for the explanation Saso, but if you look at the times I marked in yellow, the second trigger start just after the first one finished.
Moving or delete the trigger files resolve this problem BUT this problem still occurs even when the file is deleted. All I get then is an error that the trigger file does not exists.

But we don't have the last version, so I will first update it and see what happens then.
