Multiple copies vs multiple labels

Post by Ben-NB » Tue Aug 05, 2014 5:07 pm

Recently while trying to use serial numbers for labels it was revealed to me that NiceLabel Designer Pro cannot handle, what I would consider to be, the quite simple functionality of differentiating between printing multiple copies of a label and printing multiple labels. This means that doing serial numbers, you'll get a different serial number each time, even if you're printing several copies of the same label. I have since been informed that the only way to do this is by also purchasing PowerForms.

I think many people would appreciate the option to be able to print either; multiple labels (different variable values for each) or multiple copies (One set of variables reproduced identically). I'm sure I can't be the only one who has come up against this wall and it would be a very useful feature to have.

EDIT
While this feature is available for selecting at print time, there isn't an option to use this feature when defining a variable to use as the label quantity.

I am not sure who told you that it is not possible to use counters for identical copies... maybe the scenario you describe is a different one, but using "Identical label copies" in the Advanced options during printing results in identical copies without the counter being incremented:

This is possible yes, however from what I'm aware, this can't be tied into a variable to define the number of labels to print.

I should probably have been clearer on that, my apologies

Oh, okay. Yeah I can see your problem.
I'll make sure to add it to the requested features!

I'm still interested in finding a solution to this problem as looking through a list of over 2000 part numbers to see how many labels are required at each print to manually input data into the exact copies box is becoming an issue

If you would use NiceLabel PowerForms Desktop, the solution is easily available as the Print Label action supports variable "multiple copies" and "sets" parameter.

If you use NiceLabel Designer Pro alone, this functionality is still not available.
There might be a workaround.

You could generate NiceLabel command file aka JOB file.
See the topic "NiceCommands" in the NiceLabel Pro help.

A sample JOB file would look like:

Code: Select all

LABEL "C:\LABELS\LABEL1.LBL"
SET Title = "Some string"
SET BarCode = "123456789012"
PRINT 10
If you want to print 2 identical copies of each label, you would change the PRINT command into:

Code: Select all

PRINT 10,0,2,0
In this case 20 labels would print. 2 labels for the first "record", 2 labels for the second "record", etc.

You can run the JOB file from the command-line.

Code: Select all

nlabel6.exe MyCommandFile.JOB
For details, see the topic "Command Line Parameters" in the help.

Thanks for the info Saso

Unfortunately while this may work the labels we are trying to apply this to are fairly complicated Odette format labels and the staff doing printing aren't familiar with command line interfaces.

Do you know if there are any options to upgrade from NiceLabel Pro to PowerForms as we already own a full license for NiceLabel Pro and it would be a large expenditure to have to fully purchase PowerForms for a small feature we're currently working around with manual inputs.

Hi Ben,

Yes, there is an upgrade path from NiceLabel Designer Pro to NiceLabel PowerForms Desktop.

It would be best to fill in the Have us contact us form. A sales representative will then contact you from the nearest office. Please mention this post.
