Mass update of graphic path in labels?

Post by yinsw » Mon Apr 05, 2010 7:21 am

SOS!

I have thousands of labels with graphics linked to graphic files in network path. Is there any way to mass update all of my labels without having to open one by one to change the path?

Yes it is.

You can write an application that connects to NiceLabel via ActiveX. Your application needs to open NiceLabel, loop through the labels you have and open them. Find the picture on the label, change it's path and save it.

I believe that is the only way to massively change the picture paths in the label files.

You can find more information here ActiveX Code Samples.

That image property might be available only in read-only mode through the API, so writing the application to change the image paths seems impossible with the current API.

Perhaps Knowledge Base KB108 will be of some help here.

Basically, if you have your image files stored in the folder \\server\share\Labeling\Graphics and you can place your label files in \\server\share\Labeling\Labels, NiceLabel will automatically find the correct images when printing labels.

The labels have hard-coded images to the current network location, but if images will not be found there as one of the search location NiceLabel will try the relative path ..\Graphics (one folder up from the folder Labels and down into the folder Graphics). No changes of the label templates are necessary, but you must have images in the folder Graphics and labels in the folder Labels. You have to use exact these names...

We found a solution that can help you. Download a small application called Label Structure from the following page:

http://www.nicelabel.com/Downloads/Utilities

and run it (there is no installation, you can just copy it to a location of your choice). Go to the "Tools" menu and select "Change paths..." option. A dialog box will be opened where you can enter old path to the graphics files and the new one. Then select all label files you would like to change by clicking the "..." button. Then you can click the "Set" button. This will open every selected label, change the old path to the new one and save label file. There is one catch though: you have to have graphics files in both locations (old and new) in order for this to work.

Please, before you do anything, make a backup of all label files first.

Note: You have to have at least NiceLabel Pro 5.X installed for this utility to work. For more information about it see

Is there a way to accomplish this is NiceLabel 2019? The Label Structure tool says it only works up to NiceLabel v6.

Currently there is not tool like that in NiceLabel 2019, we recommend posting in this thread viewforum.php?f=12 which is where our developers monitor new ideas and suggestions
