Nicelabel Version 5 support ends / update ... migrate to 2017

Post by zieglemi » Tue May 15, 2018 11:00 am

hello

we are currently using nicelabel Version 5 (NiceWatch Enterprice Business Connector) for printing several labeltypes from our ERP System = SAP!

since Version 5.x service supports ends we must decide how we go forward: update to new Version 2017 and so on ...

currently we are using Nicelabel as follows:
+ Nicelabel Designer (to adjust existing labels ... since the last three years only small adjustments were done)
5 different type of labels are in use
+ nicewatch Servermanager (NiceWatch Enterprice Business Connector)
receives via http request labeldata and start generating printfiles (never directprint!)
and stores in pre defined folders for further processing

we do not need instant label preview in SAP and ON-demand printing from our process point of viewing!

i heard that in Version 2017 NO NiceWatch is longer available!

so i would ask the forum which possibilities are available?
upgrading?
migration?

maybe someone have the same topic on his table?
is there a feature in Version 2017 where i can migrate the current NiceWatch development?

Thanks in advance for your time and expertise

regards
michael

Hi Michael,

There is a clear upgrade path from NiceLabel 5 to NiceLabel 2017.

NiceLabel 2017 is a new-generation NiceLabel software, completely rewritten from scratch, but it will support your existing label files and NiceWatch configurations. Some ancient label features might not be available in NiceLabel 2017 anymore (such as OLE objects), or are scheduled to be added in later releases. There is a list of differences / not compatible features (see link below).

NiceLabel 2017 still includes the integration server. We call it NiceLabel Automation. In its essence, it provides the functionality previously offered by NiceWatch. At the same time, it is much easier to use and has a lot of new features. There are several product levels of NiceLabel Automation. Your "NiceWatch Enterprise Business Connector" is comparable to "NiceLabel Automation Enterprise", which is a component of a product NiceLabel LMS Enterprise.

You can easily migrate your existing NiceLabel 5 labeling assets into NiceLabel 2017 platform.
You can test NiceLabel 2017 in the 30-day trial mode.

I suggest the following:
  1. Download trial version of NiceLabel 2017.
You can install NiceLabel 2017 side-by-side with version 5 or use some other computer.
  2. Convert your label files from version 5 to 2017. You can do this manually, label-by-label, with Open/Save As. Or you can use the converter. Download the Label Converter 2017 here.
NOTE: Your labels have to be saved with the latest release of version 5 (5.4.4). If you use some older version, you will have to upgrade NiceLabel 5 to 5.4.4. If you do not want to disturb the current server, you can install NiceLabel Pro 5.4.4 on some other computer, where you will do the label resave.
  3. Start Automation Builder application and load existing NiceWatch configuration. Then select Save As to save the configuration into new Automation-type of a file.
  4. See the KB article about differences in NiceLabel 2017 compared to NiceLabel 6.
  5. Talk to you existing NiceLabel reseller for help, if you do not want to perform the file conversion yourself.
Let me know, if you have any additional question.
