Urgent help for Nicelabel 5 SE

Post by secc123 » Thu Feb 04, 2016 6:44 pm

Hi, We have an Avery AP 54 printer which came with Nicelabel 5 SE which has been working fine for several years on Windows 7. Long story short, the computer started having troubles so we got a new one with Windows 7 x64. I have installed the printer driver and every program in windows can send print jobs to the Avery printer fine, connected through parallel, it shows up in the printer monitor as being there...everything works except Nicelabel5!!!! When i run it the splash screen appears then a box appears on top stating no printer drivers and only gives two options, option 1 =download drivers, option 2: cancel - whichever you press the program just closes!

Any help very much appreciated as have been at it ALL day and nothing seems to get Nicelable to start.

Hi,

I think something went wrong during the installation...

Uninstall your previous NiceLabel and Driver.
Make sure that the new installation (NiceLabel and NiceDriver)
will executed with Admin rights!
preferably download the actual Driver from NiceLabel
and install this one...

there no problems with (my) NiceLabel SE (5.2 Build 2201) and NiceDrivers (for Avery)
on Win7 /64

Also when you extract the installation file for NiceLabel 5 SE, make sure that you also extract "vendor.dat" to the same directory. Otherwise installation will not be completed correctly.

Best regards!

Hi, Thanks for the replies - i really appreciate it.

I have uninstalled and cleaned the registry entries several times. I have tried the software and drivers which were on the old machine (that did work), i have tried the Avery drivers from their website and the ones from NiceLabel as well - all give the same problem.

Like i said, as far as Windows is concerned the printer is installed fine - all other programs can print to it, its ONLY NiceLabel thaty give the message about the drivers - even though the print monitoring software that comes with NiceLabel drivers see's it perfectly and shows it is there online with a green tick. This is what i don't understand, why does NiceLabels own print monitor see it fine, every other app in Windows can print to it BUT NiceLabel can't?

Thanks

this sounds as if it not the NiceLabel SE
Distributed by Avery Dennison

there are more NiceLabel SE (but for other Manufacturer)
you have to use a Version for Avery Dennison Printer.

NiceLabel SE label designer is a labeling software bundled with some printers. When you buy the printer, NiceLabel SE is provided with if free of any charge. However, NiceLabel SE can only be used with the printer brand you have purchased. You purchased Avery printer, so NiceLabel SE will work with the NiceLabel Avery drivers.

This indicates you haven't installed the software correctly.
Next to the installer (NiceLabel-SE5.exe) there should be file VENDOR.DAT. This .DAT file defines the support for a specific printer brand in NiceLabel SE.

You have to do the following:
  1. Uninstall NiceLabel SE.
  2. Install NiceLabel SE again, making sure VENDOR.DAT is in the same folder as NiceLabel-SE5.exe.
  3. Once you do that, NiceLabel drivers for Avery will be visible in NiceLabel SE and you can print the labels.

Hi, Finally got it sorted.

The first several times i used the exact version that came with the printer, the one that was installed in the original machine as they still had the setup on the old drive. Each and everytime i got the popup box as posted by Saso. Then i tried the version from Nicelabel, same thing, then i tried the drivers from Avery themselves and each of the versions of Nicelabel (original version from printer, NiceLabels version AND a version that the company we bought the printer from emailed), ALL of them did the exact same thing.

Last night i found a version on a forum (not illegal, i think it was posted there a few years ago for somebody who had lost there original setup disk by a Nicelabel rep). As a last ditch attempt today i tried that one......PERFECT! Worked straight away AND its the same version we had on the old machine adn the same version the reseller rep emailed yesterday so i have no idea what the difference is but it worked.

I want to thank each and everyone of the posters and Nicelabel reps who took the time to post replies and help with this issue, you have been so helpful and you will never know how much i appreciate your kindness.
