Connection to NiceLabel Pro network server is not available

Post by alessandro.faglia » Thu Apr 28, 2016 3:37 pm

Dear all,
we have an urgent issue with a print station where we run NiceForm runtime. We moved the license server to another path, and we managed to update this path on all stations but one, where we get the attached message when running NiceLabel Pro (5.4.4 build 7005). How can we fix this? we just want to simply give it the new path.

Thank you for your help.
Alessandro

Hello,

The easiest way would be to find the licence.cfg file in "c:\programdata\EuroPlus\NiceLabel 5\system\" on this client computer where you have the problem and rename it to licence.cfg_bak.

After that when you will run your client NiceLabel it will start in demo mode, so you can select a network licence again and point it to a new server.

I tried this way, but when I give the new path it asks me to register again the license (check the atatched screenshot), and here I stop because I don't want to break the new license server if something goes wrong.

UPDATE: if I run the application (NiceLabel Pro) as domain administrator everything works fine, it uses the new path and works in online mode, but if I run as local user (domain member anyway) it gives me the previous message and starts in offline mode.

What can I do?

Thank you.

It seems that the domain user doesn't has full access on the network folder and thus it cannot obtain the licence from the database. This is why it asks you for the licence information.

Make sure that your domain user has full access on the network folder.

With "Full access" you mean "Full control"? now I gave NTFS "Modify" permission to Everyone, and "Full control" to the share; the NTFS "Full control" will enable everyone to change permissions and take ownerships of files and folders, this is not exactly a good thing under a security point of view.

Isn't the NTFS "Modify" right enough?

Tks.

I tried anyway to give Full Control to Everyone, same outcome.

Did you also check share permissions? Please do so also, and make sure that also "share permissions" will allow anyone to modify the files.

Also make sure that when you run the client and it asks you for the licence location, that you use UNC path and not some mapped drive, as it is mandatory to use UNC path for NiceLabel to work correctly.

Yes I did it, and they are set for Everyone to Full Control. No Deny permissions are used. All the files and folders have the same rights as they are inherited.

What else can I try before trying to reinstall the client? :(
