Network Layout

Post by rkidd-brocade » Tue Nov 22, 2016 6:09 pm

Can I have the server on a separate vlan than the clients? It appears to use TCPIP for client server communications but one of my customers is saying that everything needs to be on the same vlan/network

From licensing point of view, there is no server/client architecture in NiceLabel 2017. There is no licensing server to install. All NiceLabel software, no matter what you have (Designer, Automation, Control Center), must be able to communicate between themselves.

You can activate clients with the same "multiuser" license key, such as NiceLabel LMS, but some requirements apply:
  • All computers must be member of the same domain (or workgroup), or members of different domains that have two-way trust relationship enabled.
  • All computers must be able to communicate on specific port.
  • The computer can be on separate vlan, but communication between the computers is necessary (see above).
To summarize, it doesn't have to be the same network (but if you use separate vlans, you must enable communication between computers across vlans on specific ports), but it must be the same domain (or more domains with two-way trust relationship).

For details see NiceLabel 2017 Licensing document.
