Create 128C barcode with variables

Post by RobMolenaar » Tue Mar 16, 2010 10:39 am

Hello,

I want to create a 128-C barcode. I have different variables I need for this barcode.
Somehow I cant figure it out how to create this 128-C code with all this variables.

Barcode must consist:
code (02): variable with EAN13 code starting with a zero (0). so has 14 digits
code (21): variable with 9 digits starting with zero (0)
code (37): variable with 8 digits
code (90): variable with 3 digits
code (400): variable with maximum of 29 digits (can also be less then 29 digits)

I created a function EAN.UCC128 with all these variables.
When I create a new barcode with "Use existing variables" and I choose my new function the barcode is not showing up.

When I want to print a label I get this error: "Variable has parameters, that makes it incompatible with objects on the label! Please change them! Bar code needs variable with even length!"

Also important is that this barcode must have a <GS> separator

I'm really stuck at the moment [-o<

Hello,
Im very fresh in this forum but I would like to reopen this post.

I have exactly the same problem -( probably we have the same client)

but the enclosed label is not satysfying for the client

the probelm is that he requires the separator mark after (37)00000099
and he requires this variable as the 8 digit length

when I put there 7 dig length value then the separator appeares but not in the case of 8 which is in fact the proper value.

What to do ???
I have the label still not accepted and the fire on board
Please help

Hello ewa,

You can ask your customer to follow GS1 standards

If an AI is variable length application only adds separator if the data for the AI is not maximum length. This is the way GS1 requires application to work.

However, for such customers as yours you can use a workarround:

1. Create new prompt variable with maximum length 8. (Data, Variables, Add) Name the variable value.
2. Create another variable with "No Prompting for data" and default value <FNC1> Name the variable separator.
3. Create another variable with "No Prompting for data" and default value <FNC1> Name the variable separator1.
4. Create another variable with "No Prompting for data" and default value (37) Name the variable prefix.
5. Create a concatenate function (Data, Functions, New, Concatenate) and add the variables together in the following order: separator1, prefix, value, separator.

Attach the Concatenate output variable to Code128 barcode and you will end up with an GS1-128 barcode that will allways include the separator at the end.

Hope this helps 8)

Thank you,
I will have the possibility to check it only tomorrow, now the comp is closed already on the production area. I have tried all the steps but I've got stuck on the last one - when chosing Code128 for the bar code I cannot link the variable which is defined already. I hope it is not the propery of some new program version. Anyway tommorrow I will know.
