Excel 2007 limitations ?

Post by markalderson » Thu Mar 31, 2011 1:41 pm

Hi.
Could you tell me if there are any restriction in place when connecting to Excel 2007 + database
using the xlsx file extension?

I have a label design that uses more than 256 fields (Fun to design), i know excel pre 2007 was limited to 256 colums

But versions from 2007 onwards now allows you to use 16,384 colums

but when i load in the new xlsx database it seems to limit it still to 256 ?

Any help advice documents would be appreciated

Kind regards - Mark alderson

Hello Mark,

NiceLabel uses 2007 Office System Driver from Microsoft to connect to Excel 2007 and 2010 files.
Although the column count inside excel was increased with 2007 version the limitation still applies if you access excel database through OLEDB driver. The consequence is that you will not be able to use more than 255 columns in any application that accesses excel files through their official OLEDB database driver.

I suggest you try to separate the table in more tables (it should also be easier to maintain :wink: ) or use different kind of storage.

Hope this helps

Regards,
Miso
