Error Message on Opening Label from different PC

Post by TheAllrounder » Mon Feb 13, 2012 1:01 pm

Hi,

i get these Error-Messages, when I try to Open an exisiting NiceForm (without any Data-Connections activated) on a different Computer.

This Form was created on a Terminal Server with the NL Suite Network Edition v5.4.1.
Now I want to use a Copy as emergency BackUp on a single Computer, as we might loose the connection to the Terminal Server.
For testing purposes we updated our existing local version of NiceLabel Pro to 5.4.1
So the demo of NiceForm is available and does work with simplified NiceForms (Clicking Buttons sums up values in a textfield).
But opening my existing and working Form, we use on TS without any dataconnection, i get these messages.

Hope you understand my problem.

Can you provide a form file (.XFF)? You can send it in the private message.
I am interested to see what the contents of the file is.

The error might be related to the XML parser that NiceForm uses to open the .XFF file. In fact, .XFF file has the .XML contents.

We changed the XML parser from NiceForm v4 to V5, so this error message would have some sense if you would open new .XFF file in old NiceForm...

both have the same version of NiceForm 5.4.1!

and i also tested a simple form with 3 or 4 buttons, while clicking on each button adds his value (1,2,3 or 4) to the exisitung sum in a textbox via VBS. This Testform was created on the TS and tested on the "stand alone" Computer ....

i'll send you a zip with xff, lbl, dvv

I have no problem opening the form on my PC (and several other PCs), so there is nothing wrong with the .XFF file.

The error message says that one character from the .XFF file cannot be read. The header in the .XFF file specifies that the contents is encoded in the UTF-8 scheme. But NiceForm has troubles reading one "special" character that is apparently not encoded in UTF-8.

This is the header in .XFF:

Code: Select all

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
What's the reason for this?
Perhaps the outdated XML parser on your second PC. NiceForm uses Microsoft XML parser. Try to update/reinstall it.

Which operating system so you use on the second PC?

ok strange problem ... but thats it!

change the german "ä", "ö", "ü" to ae,oe,ue... copied the form to the other computer ... edited it back to the original state ith ä,ö,ü and now it works ....
