Nice label automation file trigger

Post by donaldduc » Wed Apr 15, 2020 8:57 pm

Hello.
New at work :). Trying to use automation for the first time and what I want to do is to read data from the trigger file. I dont know what settings I need so that Automation will read the data from the file and print it accordingly when the file is moved to the trigger folder. Thanks in avancerad

Hello mr duck ;)

Based on the type of file you make a data filter first.
Structured text / unstructured data.
For example in structured text you give a certain location in the file (line 3 character 10 to 15) a name.

When you set the data filter in your trigger you can assign these file location to variables.
And with variables you can make Disneyland happen in automation ;)

Ok. So I dont get it to work as I want.. I want to use a triggerfile with the data that I want to print..

So I created a new label with database connection to a "fil" (maybe this is wrong)
Saved the label
Created a NIce label automation setup with the settings "File trigger"
I then Import variables with the wizard and open the created new label. I recvied a popup that the label contains variables and that the variables will be recvied from the trigger (translated from Swedish..) I interpret it as the trigger will use the data in the triggerfile, but that is not working.. It will print the data from the examplefile that was used wen I created the label.

Sorry but I think I need some corrections here..

Thanks

Donalduc..( I know it spells with a K at the end but its a long story )

Hey Donald,

Your trigger should look something like on the following screenshot.

Here is a simple rundown on making a simple trigger

- make you label without any connections, just variable names
- make the datafilter with field names
- set up your trigger
- import the variables from you label using import variables
- in the data filter you map the field names to your variables, this puts the data from your file onto the label variables (green arrows)
- if needed do some funky stuff in a script
- open a label, could be a variable with a path to the label file or a direct link to a label file
- set a printer
- print the label

Donald,

It would be a good idea to submit a support ticket https://www.nicelabel.com/support/technical-support as we will need your files to take a look at them
