Save each record from the database as a separated label

Post by bonny1992a » Fri May 22, 2020 10:26 am

Hello everyone!
I'm quite new to Nicelabel Pro 5 (the company is planning to switch to the latest one, tho), and I always created every label from scratch.
I just recently started to use databases because we have a pretty huge list of labels that need to be printed, but selecting just one label when printing it's too much complicated because not always it's me that's in front of the monitor.

So: is it possible to save each record from the database as a separated label?

Since english is not my main language, I'll explain myself better with an example:

I have a database with three records:
EAN_1 TITLE_1 FLAVOR_1
EAN_2 TITLE_2 FLAVOR_2
EAN_3 TITLE_3 FLAVOR_3

I'd want to save all of those records as EAN_1.lbl, EAN_2.lbl, EAN_3.lbl.
Is it possible?

Thank you in advance!

bonny1992a,

I'm sorry I don't have any recommendations for NiceLabel 5, but maybe someone else will. I think this will not be possible in your current version. However, this is supported in NiceLabel 2019 PowerForms. You can create Label Variants, which has locked print-timed data sources (like information from each record of your database).

Hi Mytch,

I am trying to do the same as bonny. Is there a step by step tutorial to achieve this result? I have Nicelabel Designer 2019.

Thank you in advance,

Ngutierrez

Ngutierrez,

Firstly, you need to have at least PowerForms to utilize the required Actions in NiceLabel Designer 2019. I don't have a full tutorial but it's really simple with just two actions required (and Database Table connected on your Solution):
2020-06-26_14h38_17.png
2020-06-26_14h38_17.png (231.25 KiB) Viewed 157 times
Action 1 - For Every Record means the same set of actions will execute for each database record selected in the table. In this sample, there are 3 records selected, so we expect 3 variants. The Database Table object creates mapping between database fields and NiceLabel variables.

Action 2 - Create Label Variant will take some input label template and creates an output of a print-only label. The input label should be designed with variables that have been defined in the Database Table. The output file name should be unique each time, so you can use some unique field in the database or random file name. This action will execute 3 times according to the example, which will generate unique label variants for each record.

Regards,
Mytch
