embedding HTML content on label?

Post by sdwarwick » Tue Aug 07, 2018 8:33 pm

today, we use many REST-based services to generate visual content which is formatted in HTML. It would be a great addition to have the ability to have a field that could point to a URL and embed it on the label/form, in the same manner as we typically do for HTML Iframes

would open up a new world of integration and form creation capability

Thanks for the suggestion. We will consider it for the future releases of NiceLabel software.

With NiceLabel Automation and/or PowerForms you can already fetch the data from URL source, process it with actions and send it into variable on the label. The label itself cannot fetch the URL, unless you do some Python scripting.

Currently, NiceLabel does not support HTML formatting. To format the text, you can use Rich Text object and RTF formatting. For simple formatting cases (e.g. bold/italic formatting), you could use search & replace to convert HTML tags into RTF.

Looking at potential workarounds. I just checked and your SVG rendering engine doesn't support the foreignObject tag, so that strategy is out

it looks like a strategy that might work is to use a system that can convert html to PDF directly, as you support PDF as an image. the following library is available pretty cheaply to do this. https://evohtmltopdf.wordpress.com/ I should be able to use it directly in ironpython, but it would make a nice addition to the product.
